Psilocybin (4-PO-DMT) is a naturally occurring psychedelic tryptamine alkaloid found in over 200 mushroom species. Once ingested, the body converts it into psilocin, which activates serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the brain. This produces hallucinogenic effects, including altered perception, intense emotions, and a distorted sense of time.
